Hope in God ALONE...

Spiritual warfare is certain in the life of every person who has ever dared to call and make Jesus Lord. The battle rages every day. Some days are skirmishes but as it is referred to in Ephesians 6:13 "so that when the day of evil comes", there are some days that the attack seems particularly deadly.
There are more subtle tactics that the demons use at times to discourage us, tempt us to give up on having life to the full, or just being lulled into a life of faithlessness which in the end is spiritual death. I believe one of those subtle tactics is hopelessness.
So often, I have been confronted with traps in my thinking that have actually been honed with demonic skill since childhood. As I have continued to go deeper in my life with the Lord, these have needed to be healed and corrected. Thanks be to God in Jesus Christ our Lord that I have been able to change and keep changing by the power of the Holy Spirit, God's word, and faithful family and friends who have helped me continue to love the truth even when it hasn't been easy to grasp at first.
One of the most important truths I have deep conviction about is no matter what is going on around me, in my family, in the church, in the world...I have to believe what God has said and get to a place of surrender and stay there. I have learned to visualize laying whoever I am concerned about at the feet of Jesus and walk away.I know full well that God has the ability to make me understand any way He wants to use me in anyone's life. Other than that I pray and wait.
One of the answers to hopelessness for me has been to clear the clutter from my mind and heart and put my hope in God ALONE. There are three things that have helped me in my understanding of what it means to put my hope in God alone. These are:
1) continuing to understand and rely on the character of God
2) deliberately focusing on His promises
3) studying all the passages that talk about putting our hope in God.
Understand/Rely on God's character
This topic is so extensive, I need to just say read the Bible from cover to cover over and over.God's love, faithfulness, justice, patience, and limitless power are a few topics to start with.
Focus on God's Promises (a few that have been helpful)
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good--not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.
Psalm 34:19AMP Many evils confront the consistently righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
Isaiah 41:10 NLT Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Zephaniah 3:17AMP The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a Mighty One, a Savior Who saves! He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest in silent satisfaction and in His love He will be silent and make no mention of past sins, or even recall them; He will exult over you with singing.
John 16:33AMP I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have perfect peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted! For I have overcome the world. I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.
Romans 8:26-28 NIV In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
StudyALLthe passages on Hope (prayerfully absorb, meditate, set my mind on this hope; here are a few:
Romans 8:19-27 NIV The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved.
But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
Romans 5:1-5 NIV Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
Micah 7:7AMP But as for me, I will look to the Lord and confident in Him I will keep watch; I will wait with hope and expectancy for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.
Psalm 62:5-7AMP My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him. He only is my Rock and my Salvation; He is my Defense and my Fortress, I shall not be moved. With God rests my salvation and my glory; He is my Rock of unyielding strength and impenetrable hardness, and my refuge is in God! Trust in, lean on, rely on, and have confidence in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is a refuge for us (a fortress and a high tower). Selah (pause, and calmly think of that!)
Psalm 130:5 NIV I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope.
Hebrews 6:17-19 NIV Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
Romans 15:13 NIV May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
